Dear Teachers and Educators,
Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia AR will be hosting its annual Science and
Engineering Open House on Friday, October 18, 2019! The departments of Engineering &
Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Nursing, and Math & Computer Science are joining forces to
organize this event, which will be packed with STEM hands-on activities taking place every 45
minutes from 9:30am to 12:30pm. This event is FREE and open to all 10 th -12 th grade students!
This event has grown to be the Greatest Celebration of STEM in Southwest Arkansas!
This year we will be offering a variety of activities, designed to entertain but packed with STEM
knowledge, including:
Wildlife Tracking Time for Kinetics (Chemistry)
Reptiles and Amphibians of Arkansas Mean Plants ( Biology)
Bagging the Book Bandit ( Forensic
Chemistry)
Blood Typing and Physiotherapy (Lab
Science)
Rockets and Physics Demo Eyeball Dissection (Biology)
Keystroke Biometrics (Computer Science) Fossil Frenzy (Biology)
Fundamentals of Nursing Skills Chromatography (Chemistry)
Robo Roaches (Neurobiology) Geometry of Soap (Math)
Fungus Among Us (Biology) 3D Printing and SolidWorks (Engineering)
Get Rhythm (Biology) What is in a Name? (Math)
Unity Game Development (Computer
Science)
Robotics and Lego Mindstorms

Lunch will also be available after the event at the all-you-can eat SAU cafeteria for $5 per
person, payable directly to the cafeteria on the day of the event.
Participation in this event will be very limited and will be filled on a first-come, first-served
basis. Groups may have up to 24 students, and each school district may send up to 48 students.
