SciAccess 2020

June 29, 2020

- Free

This event, taking place on June 29, is dedicated to promoting diversity and disability inclusion in STEM. It will feature a keynote presentation by Astronaut Soyeon Yi. Dr. Yi is the first and only South Korean Astronaut.

Would you be able to please share this event with the teachers, staff, students, and families connected to your school? The event is free but requires registration at https://go.osu.edu/sciaccess2020SciAccess is an all ages event. In addition to hearing from an astronaut, attendees will learn from an international group of experts in accessible science, including Dr. Nic Bonne, a vision impaired astronomer, Dr. Sarmistha Talukdar, a molecular biologist and Autistic self-advocate, and Julia Velasquez, who aspires to become the first Deaf space explorer. Please see the attached flyer for more details.

The SciAccess Conference is being hosted in connection with a series of accessible astronomy webinars called Making Space for All, which (like the conference) feature ASL interpreting and live captioning services. Making Space for All episodes take place on Zoom every Thursday at 3:00 PM ET. They answer public and student questions about astronomy and highlight research done by underrepresented scientists. Join us this week on June 11 to learn about NASA’s return mission to the moon. See the attached flyer for more details.

During this time of distance learning, these opportunities are designed to connect students and educators to a network of people who are passionate about equitable science access. Below please find a description that we hope you will share with your networks.
