VEX Teacher Camps

UA Little Rock STEM Education Center is excited to offer an amazing opportunity for professional development in VEX Robotics! Whether you are an existing coach, or someone who wants to learn more about the programs… this will be a great experience. We are hosting six summer camps (described below). As a participant, you will work with the instructors and a small team of students to build and program a VEX robot that will compete in the camp’s final-day competition. You’ll get to see first hand how the robots are built, programmed, as well as all the trials and tribulations students experience in their journey to build the best bot! On the competition side, you’ll get to experience of setting up and running a competition!
You will receive 18-21 hours of professional development for each session you complete. The camps run from July 9 – July 27th either 8:30 am – 11:30 am OR 1:00 pm – 4:00 pm. We ask that you arrive 15 min prior and stay 15 min after dismissal. Also, the Thursday of each week, we will set up for the competitions- which could add another 3 hours of PD. The dates and times for each specific session are below.

VEX IQ Beginner: This camp will be centered around the VEX IQ robotics kit used by many schools in Arkansas. This camp will focus on introducing students to VEX IQ robotics components, programming methods, and construction techniques. Camp is open to all rising 3rd-6th grade students.
Sessions are July 9-13, 2018 8:30 am – 11:30 am OR
July 16-20, 2018 8:30 am – 11:30 am
Registration Fee: $50 or $365 with a VEX IQ Super Kit
VEX IQ Advanced: This camp is for students already familiar with VEX IQ robotics kits, either through their school, last year’s camp, or by attending Sessions 1 or 2. This camp will focus on advance building and programming strategies, including the use of sensors. This camp is open to all rising 3rd-6th grade students.
Sessions are July 23-27, 2018 8:30 am – 11:30 or 1:00 – 4:00 pm
Registration Fee: $50 or $365 with a VEX IQ Super Kit
VEX VRC: Explore the worlds of engineering, robotics, and coding with the VEX Robotics Design System. Get hands-on experience building a frame and base for the robot and engineer its wiring. Teams must adapt their robots to compete in user-piloted challenges and obstacle courses as well as autonomous robot challenges requiring programming using the ROBOTC software. This camp is open to rising 6th-12th grade boys and girls.
Session: July 16-20, 2018 1:00pm – 4:00 pm
Registration Fee: $50 or $575 with a Dual Control Starter Kit
GIRL Power VRC: The purpose of VEX Girl Powered is to encourage new experiences, a diverse culture, and a more encompassing definition of what a roboticist looks like. In an effort to encourage more middle school/high school girls into robotics, we are providing a girls-only session. The camp will offer the same skills as above but is open to rising 6th-12th grade girls.
