Power of Water Institute (Online PD)

June 9, 2020

The UA Little Rock STEM Education Center in collaboration with Central Arkansas Water is excited to host the 4th Annual Power of Water Institute for STEM Teachers in grades 4-12. The institute will be online Tuesdays and Thursdays in June.  The goals of the Power of Water are to increase teachers’ ability to plan effective instruction for students to learn (1) the relationship between water as a resource and human activity, (2) the impact of watershed management (protection) on water quality, (3) the engineering of systems to meet human needs for water, and (4) the importance of the water treatment process. Additionally, you will learn how to take this content information back to your classroom in the form of problem and project-based learning as well as different education technology applications.

The Power of Water institute has been traditionally a one week “in the field” type of professional development. Due to the COVID-19 restrictions in place, and its unpredictability in the coming summer months, we are moving the institute to a fully online platform. You’ll still get the same great content information, with live stream video and pre-recorded modules taking you inside several Central Arkansas Water facilities. Depending on the COVID-19 restrictions there may be an opportunity to visit one or more of these facilities in person at a later date this summer.

The institute will run a total of 6 days online, with additional work hours and support beyond the scheduled online times. You will receive up to 18 hours of professional development.

Online times are as follows: June 9,11,16,18, 23, 25, from 9:00 am-11:00 am.

There is no cost for this professional development, however, registration is required.
