Certified Interpretive Guide (CIG) Training

Do you lead nature walks, historic site tours, or do you want to? Bring your story to life through the art of interpretation!

Certified Interpretive Guide is for those who present programs in any formCIG training is relaxed, fun, and focuses on techniques to turn information into interpretation to create memorable, meaningful experiences that change lives.

The 32-hour CIG curriculum includes friendly discussion of the why and how of getting your message to your audience. It includes:

  1. History, definition, and principles of interpretation
  2. Techniques for making your programs purposeful, organized, enjoyable, and thematic
  3. Incorporating tangibles and intangibles to make your programs relevant, meaningful, and memorable
  4. Understanding and using the senses for maximize impact
  5. Tools for talking that engage your audience and increase attention and memory
  6. Completion of all certification requirements
  7. All materials including your CIG workbook, pen and tablet, light snacks, and CIG textbooks are provided.

Your certified (CIG) trainer

Jay S. Miller, President of the Board of Director of the National Association for Interpretation, spent 24 years as chief of the interpretation division of the Arkansas State Park System. He received a master’s degree in Wildland Recreation Management and Interpretation from Utah State University, and is an NAI Certified Interpretive Planner and Certified Interpretive Trainer.
